Message raise boost, so if yours were removed, and you only saw 7 psi, something else is happening, like safety boost or boost leaks. .... I'll explain it this way. The factory restrictors restrict the air from leaving the wastegate area via the bleed line, thus tricking the wg into sensing that the boost is higher than it actually is, so the wg opens sooner and keeps boost lower than it would be if the bleed line had no restrictor in it. ... After-market boost jets fool the wg also, by restricting air as it enters the wg area, thus tricking the wg into sensing that the boost is lower than it actually is. Thus the wg stays closed longer, raising the boost. So, the pressure the wg senses could be viewed as a balance between the air coming in (through a boost jet), and the air going out (through a factory restrictor). Lengthy, but I hope this helps.
